This paper reviews several multi-target drugs to introduce the progress in establishing a methodology for the identification of antinociceptive multi-target drugs. By using a system of ex vivo efficacy screening using long-term potentiation in rat spinal cord as a surrogate biomarker for neuropathic pain, this methodology has the potential to revolutionize therapies for neuropathic pain.
